Yabu joined the agency in September, 2001. Because of his high-pitched voice and his good singing he became the leader of Johnny’s Jr. until 2004, when he released a single as the leader of “Ya-Ya-yah”. He was so big as a junior that even 赤西仁 -Akanishi Jin- phoned Yabu’s mother to ask her permission to adopt Yabu as his little brother. He was voted for “Most wanted as a little brother” and “Most wanted as a pet” in idol magazines.

While still a junior, he was chosen to form the unit “Hey! Say! BEST” and then in 2007 they graduated from juniors and formed “Hey! Say! JUMP”.  Although HSJ doesn’t have a leader, he is the oldest member and usually takes the lead when special announcements need to be made, he says he is like the “oldest brother”. In HSJ, he plays the piano and the guitar and keeps writing songs (he does it since he was a junior).

A few weeks ago it was announced that he had passed the entrance exam for the Department of Human Informatics and Cognitive Sciences at Waseda University. He has promised he’ll try his best to cope with both work and study. He will start college in April. Let’s support him in this new chapter of his life.
